Saira Banu and Dilip Kumar has been redefining love for generations. For those who don't know, Saira Banu's mother, Naseem Banu had played Cupid between the couple. She had introduced them to each other and had tried to bring them together. After falling for each other, Dilip Kumar had proposed her. We remember in a 2010 interview with The Hindu, Saira ji had talked about the two big dreams of her life. She had stated that she had only dreamt of being famous like her mother and marrying the love of her life, Dilip Kumar. In Saira ji's words, "I had dreamt of only two things in life; to became famous like my mother and marry Dilip Sahab. Allah granted me both, what more could I ask for? Today, Mashallah! I am extremely content with life."
In an interview with The Quint, Saira ji had talked about her love for Dilip ji. She had revealed, "I have deeply venerated my ammi (Naseem Banu) and Yusuf sahib. My love for sahib can never be measured in words. I was so much in love with him from the very start, at first sight. I have been a classic case of a woman madly in love. Our love’s forever. Around 1970, I had a near-fatal attack of food poisoning. I was flown to the famous London Clinic, where he held on to my hands night and day. He nursed me with devotion. I have learnt caretaking from him and my ammi. Richard Burton was in the adjoining room. My favourite actress Elizabeth Taylor would visit Burton off and on. And saab actually got her to visit me in my room, and say hello. That’s just one of the wow moments in my life, thanks to him."
