While on one side, Dilip Kumar's professional life had seen the greatest of achievements, his personal life had suffered a lot of hiccups in his journey to find eternal love. Everyone is aware of the evergreen love story of Dilip saab and his wife, Saira Banu that is still going strong and giving some major couple goals to all the lovebirds out there. Despite the age gap of 22 years between Dilip saab and Saira ji, the couple had fallen madly-in-love with each other and had gotten married on October 11, 1966, and had completed 54 years of togetherness last year. However, not many people are aware that it was legendary actress, Kamini Kaushal, who was the first lady, the first flame, and the first person, whom Dilip Kumar had loved and she was his first true love. But it was their break-up that had made Dilip saab the tragedy king of Indian cinema.
According to Anshula Bajpai and Trinetra Bajpai's book, Dilip Kumar: Peerless Icon Inspiring Generations, it has been reported that Kamini was Dilip saab's first love and the two stars had done three films together, Shaheed, Shabnam, and Nadiya Ke Paar. Although Dilip has never accepted directly that he was in love with Kamini ji, it was the popular novelist, Ismat Chughtai, who had stated that Dilip saab had loved Kamini with his whole heart. Ismat ji had also stated that it was their break-up that had stunned Dilip saab and had affected him majorly. It was director, PN Arora, who had disclosed the news that it was Kamini ji's brother, who had arrived on the set with his gun and warned his own sister that he'd kill her if she continues her affair with Dilip Kumar. After which, her family pleaded and advised her to marry her late sister's husband. In the beginning, the actress had refuted the idea, but with time, for the sake of her family and her sister's little child, she had agreed to marry her own jija ji.
Once in an interview with a leading magazine, Kamini Kaushal had revealed that when her husband, BS Sood, had heard about her affair with Dilip Kumar, he wasn't angry with her, he knew that Kamini was in pure love with Dilip saab. According to various reports and books, it is to be believed that Kamini ji and Dilip saab were finding it hard to end their relationship and that had made her brother furious, after which he had shot himself.
