For most of us, juggling with our personal and professional lives become so enmeshed that we often sideline our health issues and it becomes an afterthought. But rather, it should be our priority. In the hectic world we are living in, the lifespan is reducing and diseases are increasing due to the stress and lots of issues. Regular checkups and self-examination help us control our health and might prevent high-risk diseases. Speaking on the importance of self-examination, Dia Mirza recalled an experience from her own life and confided in Kareena Kapoor Khan on her show, What Women Want. Dia Mirza is ruling the headlines for the past few days as she walked down the aisle and embarked on her ‘happily ever after’ journey with now-husband, Vaibhav Rekhi. A day after the marriage, Dia had delighted their fans with official wedding pictures and had captioned them as “Love is a full-circle that we call home. And what a miracle it is to hear its knock, open the door and be found by it. Sharing this moment of completion and joy with you..my extended family. On Kareena Kapoor Khan’s talk show, What Women Want, Dia Mirza had spoken about her mother, Deepa Mirza’s cancer diagnosis in 2019. Speaking of how early detection had helped in battling the deadly disease, Dia was quoted as saying, "This happened with my mother last year. She was diagnosed with first-stage cancer. And because of early detection, we could take her to the hospital and they conducted a mastectomy on her. And thankfully, touch wood, she didn't even have to go through chemo or radiation. So and she is cancer free." Dia had said that this was the best example she can give as they discussed the importance of the pap smear test and self-examination.
In an interview with The Times of India, Dia Mirza had revealed the reaction when she had told her mom she wanted to participate in the contest and how her father convinced his wife. Dia had said, “The Times of India contacted me and told me that selections are happening and that they would like me to come and meet the team. They were confident that I would get selected. I have watched such contests happening but had never participated before. There were girls who wanted to be Miss India but I wasn’t one of them. After meeting the TOI team, I went home and told my mum that I want to participate and she was like, ‘Are you crazy’? My father convinced her to let me participate. In a 2017 interview with the Deccan Chronicle, Dia Mirza had spoken about becoming a mother but not through a natural process. Dia had expressed her wish to adopt with her ex-husband, Sahil Sangha. She was quoted as saying, “This has been a recurring thought, and I have been discussing and thinking about it for a while. Procreation is such a natural human process, yet see the population density on the planet, and you are forced to question whether we need to procreate. It’s a serious dialogue we’ve engaged in, but honestly, we haven’t arrived at any conclusion. But we would like to adopt children. There’s no uncertainty about that. The big question is should we be having a child of our own? Won’t we be adding to the exploding population? An adopted child can nurture the maternal instinct, but then you can’t fight nature right? So many questions between the head and the heart, but I am sure we will arrive at a conclusion because I want to.”
When Dia Mirza had completed 20 years of winning the coveted title of Miss Asia Pacific, she had walked down the memory lane and reminisced the life-changing moment by sharing a video. Revealing that her abba had made a card for her with a couplet from Robert Frost’s Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening during the Miss Asia Pacific pageant, Dia Mirza had written in the caption, ““The woods are lovely, dark and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep." - Robert Frost. Abba had penned this on a card that sat by my bedside table during the Miss Asia Pacific contest... i would read these words every night before i slept. These words have continued to motivate me till this day. Cannot believe it’s been 20 years roughly about this time in the evening that i won the title of Miss Asia Pacific for India!
