Bharatnatyam dancer turned actress, Sudha Chandran is a woman of grace and lover of dance, who has proved that “an accident so fatal can still be a blessing in disguise”. “He (Sudha’s father) was one person who said stand up for yourself because after the accident when the amputation happened my dad came into the operation theatre and he said that I shall be that leg that you are going to lose, but you will walk. Not only you will walk, you will dance. I will make sure that I will make you successful before I leave this world.”

“But at night, they used to break down. Presuming that I was sleeping I used to listen to them. I also remember my mother used to go to the market post 9 pm because she did not want to meet people. People actually walked up to me and ask silly questions like is it below the knee or how many inches.”

Recalling how people used to taunt her saying your father, KD Chandran, must have wanted to make you the next Hema Malini or Vyjayanthimala, Sudha said:

“Aww your dad wanted to make you like Hema Malini or Vyjayanthimala because you are a dancer so the next stage is films. My father never even thought of it because he wanted me to do the IAS or IFS. I am an only handicapped person who put a step forward into the entertainment media and doing really well for myself so at least I am happy. And if given another rebirth, I would love to be reborn as Mr KD Chandran and Thangum Chandran’s daughter again.”
