Bipasha Basu Being Called A 'Sex Symbol': 'It's Scary... But I Would Like To Be Sexy Even If Am 180'

Bollywood actress, Bipasha Basu is currently basking in the joy of the arrival of her baby girl, Devi into her life. For the unversed, she and her darling hubby, Karan Singh Grover embraced parenthood for the first time six years post their marriage with the birth of their daughter on November 12, 2022. However, there was a time when Bipasha was termed as a 'sex symbol' in the Indian diaspora. And we stumbled upon an old interview wherein the actress bared her heart out, revealing her feelings about the same matter.

Talking about her professional life, Bipasha Basu made her debut in Bollywood with the thriller film, Ajnabee in 2001. Since then, she has been called 'sexy' by her millions of fans, and her chiselled figure has become a heartthrob of many. Afterwards, she worked in many more films, including Jism, No Entry, Raaz, and Dhoom 2. However, her toned body never faded away from being the topic of discussion amongst her fans and critics. Moreover, we have also spotted Bipasha being trolled for her revealing and bold photoshoots during her pregnancy.

In an old interview with Simi Garewal on her popular chat show, Rendezvous with Simi Garewal, Bipasha Basu was asked about her feeling about being tagged as a sex symbol'. To this, the actress was quick to quip that in the initial days of being called this, she used to feel scary. She also revealed that due to this reason, from her first film onwards, she used to get roles based on the same concept. However, with time she has started taking it as a compliment and had said:

"I have to look good constantly, sometimes it's scary. Initially, it was a bit uncomfortable, because in India, when you are said you're that (a sex symbol), then there is nothing beyond it. You're just a sex symbol. You're not an actress, that's the way people talk about it. I am doing different kind of roles every time, but what people see is 'sexy Bipasha Basu.' I don't understand. (But) Now I have accepted it as a very big compliment. I always say I would like to be sexy even if am 180, till the time I live."

Further, in the same conversation, Bipasha had compared Bollywood's viewers with that of Hollywood and explained how the word 'sexy' is treated differently in the two industries. Afterwards, sharing about an incident which every actor or actress may feel relatable and had added:

"People have to grow beyond that thought, being sexy is taboo. In Hollywood, all famous actors are termed sexy and it is not a bad thing, but in India, if you're called sexy then they think 'oh my god, something is wrong with her.' An incident had happened with me in Jaipur, and then recently when I had gone to a restaurant, a guy tried to misbehave with me. People like to touch and see if we (stars) are real. It could have happened to a Shah Rukh Khan or Aishwarya Rai, it is not just me."
