While the nation was rejoicing the fairy tale celeb weddings, one separation news broke the hearts of many. On May 28, 2018, we all woke up to the unpleasant announcement of the former supermodels and a long-time couple, Arjun Rampal and Mehr Jesia’s separation. As per the reports, Arjun moved out of their sea-facing Bandra duplex, where they lived with their daughters, Mahikaa and Myra. Arjun and Mehr released a joint statement about their separation, “After a 20-year-long beautiful journey filled with love and beautiful memories, we would like to share, that all journeys have different paths. We have always been solid when it has come to us, we will continue to be solid for each other and our loved ones, as we embark upon a new journey. Both of us being extremely private people feel strange to be making this statement, but such are the circumstances of our lives. Where the truth can get distorted and lost. We are a family, our love for each other is forever intact and we shall always be there for one another and most importantly, for our children Mahikaa and Myra. We would, therefore, appreciate our privacy through this time. Thank all for their support. Relationships can end, but love lives on. We won’t be commenting on this any further.”
As per Mumbai Mirror reports, close friends of the ex-couple and some sources have claimed that Arjun and Mehr’s tumultuous marriage ended six months ago. They wanted their daughters to settle in with this news before announcing it to the media. Arjun and Mehr’s heated fights and arguments were so loud that it led to the complaints by their neighbours. Post which, Mehr would apologise profusely to their neighbours and Arjun shifted to a five-star hotel. Arjun and Mehr were an integral part of Bollywood’s King Khan, Shah Rukh Khan’s inner circle, but everything went bad during the making of the sci-fi film, Ra.One. This started off as Arjun’s fallout from the A-list radar. According to a source close to the couple, “Arjun requested to be a part of Ra.One. But Mehr allegedly insisted on a higher remuneration for her husband from coproducer SRK himself, who swore to never work with Arjun in the future. The two subsequently had a public falling out during the film’s release. After that, Shah Rukh stopped taking Mehr’s calls. On the other hand, when Ra.One entered its post-production phase, Arjun was signed in for Karan Johar’s We Are Family. But when Arjun hiked his fee last moment, KJo also asserted to not work with the actor ever again. A month later the release of Ra.One, it was Mehr’s 40th birthday bash, and Shah Rukh Khan and his wife, Gauri Khan’s absence proved their fallout. And soon, the core members of Bollywood’s most high-profile girl-gang, Bhavna Panday, Maheep Kapoor, Sussanne Khan, Gauri Khan and Anu Dewan, distanced themselves from Mehr. By mid-2000s, Hrithik Roshan and his then-wife, Sussanne Khan were the last of the powerful Bollywood friends of Arjun Rampal and Mehr Jesia. In 2008, Arjun was asked ‘things that interest him’ by a men’s magazine, to which he answered, “One girl who makes smoking look feminine is Sussanne”. Reminiscing an ugly spat incident from Sussanne’s birthday bash in 2017 hosted by her cousin brother, Fardeen Khan, the source stated, “When his equations with many industry friends were worsening, his friendship with Sussanne only strengthened over time and Mehr grew extremely insecure. It led to several fights between the couple. Mehr and Sussanne yelled at one another before Mehr stormed out of the party. The two have not spoken to each other since.”
When Hrithik Roshan and Sussanne Khan separation news came out, it fueled the speculations of the later’s proximity to Arjun being the prime reason behind it. But Sussanne released a statement in 2014 which informed, “Arjun and Mehr are my friends and have been for years. To poison a relationship such as this is malicious behaviour. Three years ago, Mehr was so heartbroken that she left her house and moved in with her mother but soon came back after her reconciliation with Arjun. Arjun and Mehr decided to let bygones be bygones and gave their marriage a second chance. But unfortunately, their happy moment ended soon when Mehr found that Arjun and Sussanne used to meet secretly and were close friends. In 2017, Mehr, who routinely visits Mount Mary church in Bandra, had a breakdown in the church post which she had to be escorted home by a family friend. The fact that Arjun never changed broke her down. The source revealed, “Mehr had learnt that Arjun and Sussanne were still meeting secretly and were close friends. She was traumatised as she had believed Arjun when he said he was a changed man and that everything would be fine.” While Arjun and Mehr had their own share of ups and downs, and they reconciled several times before, one heated argument between them led Arjun to leave the house for the first time in 2016.
The source informed, “They were fighting so loudly and throwing things at each other that the neighbours threatened to complain to the police as it wasn’t the first fight of its kind. Mehr apologised profusely to them and immediately after that, Arjun moved into a five-star service apartment for a week.” The source further continued, “Arjun had informed the teams of his upcoming films, JP Dutta’s Paltan and his own co-production Nastik, that he was splitting from his wife and that an official announcement would follow shortly.”
