Theirs was a love story that began with a prank call and after meeting for the first time at a party, things happened organically between the couple. That’s how, during the ten years of dating, Anil Kapoor and Sunita Kapoor grew together, as individuals and as a couple. It was Sunita, who stood by Anil during his struggling phase and supported him unconditionally. When he got his first break, Meri Jung, Anil proposed to Sunita and told her, ‘Let’s get married tomorrow – it’s tomorrow or never’. After postponing their wedding date twice, Anil and Sunita tied the knot on May 19, 1984. Anil Kapoor and Sunita Kapoor not only established his professional career together but also a ‘happily ever after’ world to live in, with three extremely talented children, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, Rhea Kapoor and Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor. A few months ago, at the grand finale of the dance reality show, Nach Baliye 9, in an interaction with the host, Maniesh Paul, Anil had shared some interesting anecdotes from the industry. When Maniesh had asked Anil, his secret to a happy marriage, he had replied, “Hamesha apne biwi ke aage peeche ‘Ji Ma’am, Yes Ma’am kijiyega, aur aap hamesha khush rahengey.”
To mark Sunita Kapoor’s birthday on March 25, 2021, Anil Kapoor had penned a heartfelt note explaining the reasons why she is the reason behind his smile. While his heartfelt note was a sweet gesture which prompted Sunita to write, "Love you to eternity and beyond", turns out that wasn’t all. Anil also gifted Sunita a black Mercedes-Benz and going by the design of the car in the pictures clicked by the paparazzi, it could be a Mercedes-Benz GLS. Sunita’s birthday gift currently retails at about Rs 1 crore.
Anil Kapoor posted a couple of pictures with his wife, Sunita Kapoor and wrote about how far they have come in their journey together. Anil wrote, “To the love of my life, @kapoor.sunita From travelling in 3rd class train compartments to local buses to rickshaws to kali peeli taxis; from flying economy to business to first class; from roughing it out in small dingy hotels in villages like Karaikudi down South to staying in a tent in Leh Ladakh...We have done it all with a smile on our faces and love in our hearts. These are just some of the million reasons I love you...You are the reason behind my smile and you are why our journey together has been so happy and fulfilled. To mark their 36th wedding anniversary on May 19, 2020, Anil Kapoor had revealed how May 19 became the best day of their lives and elaborated on his proposal story. To caption his anniversary post for Sunita, Anil had written, “How 19th May became the best day of our lives! I proposed to my girlfriend Sunita and asked her to be my wife... our wedding had been delayed a lot because I wanted to be sure that I could take care of her in the way she deserved and give her everything she could ever dream of...in the very least, I needed to be able to afford to buy a house and hire a cook!! I just wanted to be worthy of her... We got married on 19th May, against all odds... I still remember when I entered her house on our wedding day and saw my bride, she was smiling and I had tears in my eyes... Tears of happiness, but also nervousness... I mean it was my wedding day!”
Revealing that though many people prophesied that marrying so early would be disastrous for his career, he didn’t want to waste another day without Sunita Kapoor and wanted her by his side forever, Anil Kapoor had continued, “Our wedding was planned and executed within a day, and yes we may not have had a big wedding or even a honeymoon, which she still teases me about, but it was still the best thing that ever happened to me....it was now or never for us and I’m so glad we took the leap that day and started our lives together... many people prophesied that marrying so early would be disastrous for my career, but all I knew was that I did not want to waste another day without her and wanted her by my side through it all... for us it was never career or love.. it was always love AND career... I won’t say in the end we lived happily ever after...because it is not even close to the end of our love story... we still have a lot of love to share together, forever...
