Who doesn’t love weddings? The very thought of our wedding, or for that matter, a wedding in our family evokes a zillion happy-hormones in our minds! Lots of fun, colours, traditions, all-decked up people and the zillion pre-wedding and post-wedding festivities that follow thereafter, is enough to fill up an entire diary in an hour! And when we talk about celebrity weddings, they entice us to a whole new different level. And that is what exactly had happened when Angad Bedi and Neha Dhupia had shared the first pictures from their hush-hush 2018 wedding. May 2018 had a lot to offer for Bollywood buffs like us! While the first few days of the month was all about Sonam Kapoor’s wedding, we were pleasantly surprised when all of a sudden, Angad Bedi and Neha Dhupia had posted pictures from their Anand Karaj wedding with a beautiful one-liner introduction about themselves. Sharing a picture from their marriage, Angad had written, “Best friend... now Wife!!! Well hello there Mrs BEDI!!! @nehadhupia” and Neha had posted, “Best decision of my life.. today, I married my best friend. Hello there, husband! @angadbedi.” Here's one of them:
As hard as celebrities try to make their wedding a private affair, media and paparazzi always have a way of finding out little tit-bits about it, but for Angad Bedi and Neha Dhupia’s case, things were different! In a recent interview with the Bombay Times, Angad finally revealed why their wedding was so private and low-key. He shared, “I feel that our marriage was low-key because we wanted a low-key marriage. Because, when my father got married he had a very low-key wedding and he was the captain of India at that time. So, that time only his side of the family came and my mother’s side of the family came and they got married.”
Angad Bedi further added, “And, I thought of it as such a beautiful story. So, when our turn happened I wanted it to be just like how my father had his wedding and we had only 50 people. Abhi shaadi aapne apne liye karni hai ya logon ke liye karni hai, pehele yeh decide karlo. It’s like each to their own. I feel a wedding is a private affair, we both believe in that. The marriage is not only between two people, it’s between two families. Yes, it’s great to celebrate, we had a great baby shower, and we called the entire industry and everybody came and blessed us.”
Angad Bedi and Neha Dhupia had introduced themselves as 'a couple' to the world by calling each other, their ‘best friend’. They had also issued a joint statement pertaining to the same. It could be read as “Marrying your best friend is one of the greatest feelings in the world, and we are extremely fortunate to have found love in each other. It has been a beautiful journey knowing each other and after formalizing the wedding earlier this year, today, we exchanged our vows in a beautifully simple, private and intimate Anand Karaj ceremony in Delhi. We look forward to celebrating and sharing this special moment with our friends and colleagues in Mumbai in the next couple of weeks. Thank you for showering us with so much love. For those who love, Angad Bedi and Neha Dhupia’s pair, do you know how their love story had started? In a chat with Humans of Bombay, Neha had bared it all! She had stated, “He tells me that he 1st saw me at the gym when I was 20 & told his friends, ‘I’m going to get to know her 1 day. When we moved to Bombay, we met at a mutual friend’s party–it was just us standing in the balcony. I saw a different side of him–beyond the jokes & wit, there was a sensitive man. We were both away from home in Mumbai, so I always relied on him for support. He lived a bachelor life & the 1 place he could always get home food was mine. We became close friends–there was no façade & no attempt to impress one another. Well, no attempts on my part! In fact, he was the 1st call after a major heartbreak & he talked me through it–I’m sure there was a hidden motive!”
Neha Dhupia had also talked about the efforts that Angad Bedi used to take, to spend time with her, “He wasn’t low key about his feelings for me. I was shooting in Punjab & told him about a role for him. He didn’t ask for any details. He only cared about spending time with me & flew down immediately. After that shoot, he showed up at my parents’ doorstep & asked for my hand in marriage….I had no idea about it! This was when I was dating someone else! When Angad met my boyfriend, he was nice to him, but wasn’t subtle about his love for me!”
Neha Dhupia had further shared, “Finally, at a party, Karan Johar took us aside & screamed, ‘Can you not see this?! Are you blind?’ You should’ve seen the look on Angad’s face. He had ‘I told you so!’ tattooed on his forehead. When we finally decided to get married, he didn’t go down on one knee & propose. He told me I’d already wasted 4 years & declared ‘Chalo Dilli!’ to meet his parents. Then he said, ‘Before you change your mind, pick an outfit because we’re getting married in 2 days!’ Earlier, I loved the set life. I wouldn’t give it up for anything. But now I look forward to coming home to him. Angad Bedi and Neha Dhupia are now happily married and are also blessed with a soon-to-be one-year-old daughter, Mehr Dhupia Bedi. Speaking about the pitch-perfect life that they are leading right now, Neha had concluded with, “He’s currently shooting both day & night. When he comes back at 7 am, he makes me breakfast & then goes to sleep. We’re still figuring it all out & don’t expect to have it all together. Every time we’ve planned our lives, they’ve fallen apart–so we’re sticking to the unplanned! The wedding, the baby, the parenting… we’re winging it all!”
