A few weeks before her Bollywood debut, the reports of Alaya dating Aaishvary Thackeray, grandson of Bal Thackeray, had emerged in the media, and rumours were that there is much more to their relationship than just friendship.
Finally, in an interview with ETimes, Alaya Furniturewalla reacted to the rumours of her relationship with Aaishvary Thackeray and just like most celebrities, she refuted the speculations maintaining the ‘just friends’ stance. When Alaya was asked to comment on her dating rumours, she retorted, “He is a very good friend. I know it is a cliche thing to say, but we are very good family friends. Our moms know each other, my grandad knows his mom, we have known each other for a very long time. It’s just now that the media notices a photo of us together and assumes that something is going on. We have been doing acting classes for a very long time, and also go to dance classes together; if the paparazzi had clicked us earlier, they would have a lot more pictures (laughs). That’s why we are bound to click together; I find him to be quite funny.”
When probed further to comment on how she feels as her dating speculations with Aaishvary Thackeray is her first link-up rumour in the media, Alaya Furniturewalla said, “It’s not like I expect it. The paparazzi get photos so I know what’s going to happen with it. But I also make a joke out of it. Now, if I’m exiting a place, we have to exit together, and there are bunch of photographers who ask us to pose together and I politely refuse laughing over the fact that those pictures can land me in a lot of trouble later." Revealing if it gets embarrassing for her, Alaya continued, “I just find him to be quite funny. Honestly, when I am being clicked, I take it as a big compliment. I am one-film-old, and these people are technically supporting me and pushing me out there, so, I just smile. I think it is fine; people take all these things too seriously. In October 2020, when Aaishvary Thackeray turned a year older, he had ringed in his birthday in Dubai with his friends, including his rumoured girlfriend, Alaya Furniturewalla. Aaishvary’s mother, Smita Thackeray had posted a video on her IG feed, from the celebrations of her son’s birthday and mentioned in the caption that Alaya was present at the bash. Aaishvary had also posted a picture of a plate of dessert with “Happy birthday Aaishvary” written on it, on his IG story. Aaishvary had tagged Smita and Alaya on his IG story and dropped a heart emoji on it.
On August 17, 2020, Smita Thackeray had posted a collage of pictures with her son, Aaishvary Thackeray, one had a bouquet sent by Rahul Thackeray and a hugging picture with Alaya Furniturewalla. Revealing how she had spent her birthday with her close ones, Smita had captioned the post as “Wonderful evening with close ones to bring in my birthday @aaishvarythackeray @alaya.f @rhia1596 @rahul.thackeray@Aditi Thackeray.” On Alaya’s 22nd birthday, she had posted pictures from the bash and it had a beautiful black-and-white picture with her rumoured beau, Aaishvary.
