It was during the filming of Dhoom 2 that the two fell in love with each other. So, here goes the story, on a romantic and freezing night in New York in 2007, Abhishek went down on his knees with a ring in his hand, in the balcony of their hotel, and asked Aishwarya for marriage. Though she was surprised and completely swept off her feet, the lady said ‘Yes’. Now, do you know the story behind that ring? It was no solitaire or any expensive ring but a prop from the sets of Guru. Yes, Abhishek proposed Aishwarya for marriage with a fake ring in his hand and lots of love in his heart. It was the same fake ring that he used in Guru to propose his lady-love in the film.
Abhishek was head-over-heels in love with Aishwarya and after coming back from the premiere of Guru in Toronto, he decided to get engaged to Aishwarya. In January 2007, the two got officially engaged and by April 2007, the two were happily married.
Talking about how Abhishek is as a husband, Aishwarya in one of her previous interviews said, “He’s a friend, companion, husband, and a father, but I think the fact that he’s my bestest friend pretty much encapsulates it all. We are a very normal couple. Abhishek and I sometimes joke about being second siblings. We both share and talk a lot about what we are feeling. Sometimes, we have so much to say that we want to be the first to share it. So, I have to say this first: we are both good listeners, but also extremely talkative.”
Where many celebrity marriages are ending in divorces, here is Aishwarya and Abhishek reinstating our faith in the institution of marriage. The couple welcomed their daughter, Aaradhya Bachchan in 2011 and three of them are a happy family, today.
Talking about motherhood, Aishwarya had once said in one of her interviews, “Motherhood is the most beautiful fatigue. It’s relaxing. It’s invigorating. Even if you are tired, you would rather spend that time with your child. I have never been the one to talk about the loss of sleep. I have done it all on my own and just kept one girl with me and I will let her eat and sleep and I will do everything. I have never kept a posse of maids and nannies. Even if it’s hard work, it’s my choice. I am not remotely complaining nor am I judging. These are the choices I have made and that’s the life I have been leading.”
Now, after almost a decade, we will see Abhishek and Aishwarya together on the silver screen in Anurag Kashyap’s Gulab Jamun. We are very excited to see them on the screen once again!
