Kaali Kaali Zulfein (Be My Love), Neeli Neeli Aankhen (Be My Love), Khwaab Dikhaade Raah Bhula De, Hosh Uda De Sab Ke, Chain Mita De, Tan Sulga De, Mann Mein De Masti Ghol, Rock And Roll Soniye, Dole Yeh Man Tere Liye, Rock And Roll Soniye, Kabhi Tu Bhi Toh Mere Sang Dol… Karan Johar’s out-of-the-box experiment, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna was a film about infidelity, but it also portrayed a warm father-son bond. Amitabh Bachchan, who played Sexy Sam- a character who loved drinking, partying and flirting with women half his age, shared a great camaraderie with his son, Abhishek Bachchan a.k.a. Rishi and the ‘cool’ relationship between them was quite evident in the Rock And Roll song from their film. But Abhishek Bachchan has another very special memory attached with this song, apart from sharing the screen space with daddy, Amitabh Bachchan. While we’ll reveal the same in the later paragraph, we recently got another proof of the father-son duo’s BFF camaraderie when Amitabh Bachchan posted a picture of them on his social media handle. It was Big B’s caption and AB’s reply to it, which won our hearts. What seems to be an intense discussion, Amitabh ji captioned his pic with Abhishek as, “When he not just wears your shoes, but also shares the same number of chairs to sit on, then he is not just a Son, but your dearest friend !!” To which Abhishek replied, "BFF," followed by a heart, a wink and a kiss emoji.
Coming back to the Rock And Roll song, we have all seen the Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan exemplifying the father-son bond in the song as well as the film, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna. Another special memory that AB relates with this song is when he performed at an award function with his wife, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on this same song. Yes, we got our hands on a throwback video of Abhishek, wherein during his performance, he went to Aishwarya, held her hands, took her on-stage and the lovebirds shook legs on the Rock And Roll song. Breaking all stereotypes, Abhishek Bachchan married Aishwarya Rai, who is two years elder to him and also more famous, in April 2007. Aishwarya and Abhishek had met on the sets of Dhai Akshar Prem Ke (when Aishwarya was dating Salman) and later worked in Kuch Naa Kaho. It was during the filming of Dhoom 2 that the two fell in love with each other. But it was during the shoot of Guru, Abhishek had decided to propose his ladylove and had planned to go down on his knees. The entire team of Guru was shooting in New York and it was only there that he had popped the question to Aishwarya.
So, here goes the story, on a romantic and freezing night in New York in 2007, Abhishek Bachchan went down on his knees with a ring in his hand, in the balcony of their hotel, and asked Aishwarya Rai Bachchan for marriage. Though she was surprised and completely swept off her feet, the lady said ‘Yes’. Now, do you know the story behind that ring? It was no solitaire or any expensive ring but a prop from the sets of Guru. Yes, Abhishek had proposed to Aishwarya for marriage with a fake ring in his hand but lots of love in his heart. In a throwback interview, when a journalist had asked Abhishek Bachchan about the tag of an 'it couple' given by Oprah Winfrey and how do they (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and him) handle the pressure of being one of the most powerful couples, Abhishek had retorted, "You don't let these things matter. You don't go home at night and say 'We are the IT couple' or what we are going to do to maintain this. I think people spend too much time bothering about these things. Two of us have always been real about these things. We have no false illusions of grandeur nor we are aspiring to be that. We aspire to be good human beings, loving children and good professionals at what we do. These epitaphs are not going to stay.”
Junior B further had replied, “Today, you are number one and tomorrow, you are not going to be. I have always been like that. I am Amitabh Bachchan's son. I mean I could be complete wreck and say 'Oh my God, how am I going to handle the pressure or I could have been the most arrogant person earth'. I don't think I am either in all its modesty. I feel people are going to watch my films not because I am the part of the 'it' couple. It's terribly sweet Oprah to say all this and I really respect her."
Revealing the real reason for marrying Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan was quoted as saying, "That's not the basis of my relationship with Aishwarya. It's not about - you're hot and let's get married. It's not that. I married her for the human being that she is, not because she is the most successful actor we have or she is the international face of the Indian cinema because she is one of the most beautiful women. No, it's not. At the end of the day, when you come back home from a hard day at work, you go to bed and you have to face certain realities about how the person is like. These faces that we have come off at night without makeup. I married her for that person."
