Coming from a family that has no roots in Bollywood and making a successful career is something that would give pride to people, who have done it. However, coming from a film family but getting no advantage of it is very rare. Aamir Khan is such a self-made star, who has started from scratch and today his children are also getting recognition for the work of their father. Aamir Khan's relation with his father was a very close one and the difficulties that Aamir had faced in his struggling days have made him what he is today.
As Lagaan, Aamir's debut film as a producer completed 20 years on June 15, 2021, the actor revisited those old memories where he had to go through an enormous financial crisis. Aamir never had plans to produce his own film but it was his father, Tahir Hussain's financial debts and bankruptcy that had required him to start with the production of films.

Aamir also shared that his father, Tahir Hussain used to get calls to clear his outstanding debts but his father had already invested the money in films.
Aamir jokingly said that he had turned into a producer accidentally when director, Ashutosh Gowariker came up to him with the script of Lagaan. He was looking for a producer, who would fund the film with many resources. He said, "I became a producer by accident and I had no intention of being a producer. Koi mujhe mila nahi toh main bann gaya. (Since I got no one, I became the producer.)"
