Popular hair stylist, Serge Normant aptly said, “you have to have fun with hair. It’s a great accessory – play with it.” This line sums up our relationship with our hair. We are always trying to experiment with our looks and our hairstyle is something that is the first thing we prefer to change when we plan to go for a makeover.
So, girls with curly hair will want straight, silky hair and girls with straight hair will want bouncy curls. But, before you go about experimenting with your hair, we have for you some important things that you should keep in mind before you plan on curling or straightening your hair. So, read on.
When you plan to go in for expensive salon treatments for your hair, the one thing that should always be on your mind is that you are disturbing the natural processes of your hair. Each follicle of your hair has a natural protein called keratin and when you chemically treat your hair, you de-coil the strands, thus affecting the natural growth of your hair. Due to the high chemical content, it can seriously damage your hair leading to excessive breakage, frizziness, and thinning of hair at the roots.
When you go for a hair straightening procedure, be careful of the fact that nothing is permanent and even your expensive chemical treatments will go kaput after a few months. So, make sure that you have an alternative planned out, and ask yourself the question as to whether you are ready to go for touch-ups every few months or not.
Any treatment that you get done for your hair will be expensive. And, not just the initial cost of the treatment, but follow-ups for touch up or even buying specialised products will cost you a bomb. So, only if you are willing to spend that kind of money should you go in for a chemical treatment for your hair. The costs for the same can depend on various factors such as the type of treatment you go in for, the salon you visit, products they use, and the place you stay.
Sometimes our rash decisions of changing the way our hair looks lead us to regret them later. But, if you do go in for chemical treatments for your hair then there is no turning back, at least for a period of time. If you wish to go back to your curls then you can do it with aggressive heat tools, but that will only damage your hair further.
So, before going in for any treatments make sure that you will not regret your decision later on. If you feel that your craze for straight hair will be short-lived, then you can go in for non-permanent ways like frizz-controlling shampoos or deep-conditioning treatments. The results won't be as dramatic, but you’ll save time, money and the health of your hair.
Almost all chemical hair straightening treatments contain formaldehyde, which if comes in contact with the skin can cause blisters or rashes on the scalp, face, or neck. Ideally, the chemicals should only touch the hair and not any other part. And, if you are exposing your hair to chemicals for a very long time then you can also be at the risk of cancer as formaldehyde is a known carcinogen.
Ideally, you should go in for these treatments keeping in mind the above things! How has your experience been with chemical treatments for your hair (if any)? Do let us know in the comments section below.
