She is energetic, she is sensitive, she can instil life to your dull mornings, she can make you burst out in laughter with her carefree conversations, and she can even make you thoughtful on serious issues. Yes, we are talking about one and only RJ Malishka Mendonsa!
Famous for her cool show Morning No.1 on Red FM, this bindaas girl is now making waves for her commendable weight loss. She has lost oodles of weight, and looks half of what she used to look.
By following a rigorous routine of dance, yoga, Pilates, running and a healthy diet, she has lost 16 kgs in almost 5 months. Let’s have a deeper look at her journey from being fat to fit!
Do you remember Malishka has been one of the contestants in the dance reality show, Jhalak Dikhla Jaa 7? She was struggling quite hard to get that perfect figure during her stint in the reality show, and she did reduce. Here's what she says:
“In August 2014, I participated in the dance reality show on television called ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Season 7’. I lost some weight in that five-week course. Judge Karan Johar complimented me, saying, ‘Tum to badi sexy hoti jaa rahi ho (You are turning sexy by the day)’. Even the Dancing Goddess Madhuri Dixit said that I looked nice and needed to keep a watch on my weight.”
She got motivated to reduce further after getting such lovely compliments from them. She says:
“After receiving such pleasing and encouraging comments from the aces in the business, realisation set in and I started to panic. Numerous questions plagued my mind: How was I going to keep a tab on my weight? How would I manage my busy schedule and fitness regime? Finally, I started hunting for a good trainer and dietician and I did find one. When I started my weight loss journey in December 2015, I weighed a whopping 72 kgs for my 5 ft 1 inch frame.”
In addition to this, she also mentioned the name of an actor Neetu Chandra, who inspired her. Malishka said:
“I am thankful to Neetu Chandra, I do this every day. Well, almost every day.”
Not everyone is endowed with that perfect body, but a perfect blend of strict diet plan and rigorous workout routine can do wonders. No doubt it is very hard when you start, but you are likely to get the desired results with time. Same was the case with Malishka. Even she had to push herself hard to achieve the desired goals. Here's what she said:
“I started exercising because I wanted to stay fit and healthy. I didn’t want to be thin and skinny. In January 2015, I started working out at Gold’s Gym. I pushed myself very hard in the beginning and worked out for 2 ½ hours at a stretch. I started off with cardio-elliptical trainer, cycle and weights. I also did Pilates for 1 ½ hour with trainer Megha Kawale at Peddar Road. I would be on air till 11 a.m, after which I would go for my Pilates classes. I would come back to the office, work on the next day’s show, and head to the gym. I follow the same routine even now. I also did yoga, dancing and Zumba, all of which helped me.”
She further adds,
“I go for bootcamp workouts thrice a week. And on the other days, I walk an hour with weights strapped to each of my legs.”
And today, this is what she feels:
“Today, I climb six floors every day with a one kg weight strapped to each leg. It used to be a deal earlier but now I match up to the speed of the person walking without weights. I also participated in ‘Pinkathon’ with Milind Soman – a campaign where I ran for breast cancer awareness. I weigh myself every morning. Just like I pile on weight quickly, I lose it quickly too. But of course, I have to work out and watch my diet for that. I am also planning to take up Mixed Martial Arts.”
If you are thinking that Malishka might have starved to get this stunning figure, then you are completely wrong. The reason that she flaunts this curvy body is because she chooses to eat the right food at the right time. Check out her diet plan!
“Breakfast normally features an avocado nut shake/ kokam juice, along with either green or black tea. I also eat fruits like pomegranate, green apple and guava. Other breakfast options I indulge in are tuna fish/ potato soup/ green salad/ boiled asparagus, broccoli or lettuce/ raw green banana sandwich/ banana flower soup with dates/ lotus stem with brown rice/ aloe vera juice/ red gram salad/ scrambled eggs."
“Lunch is mostly air fried fish/ chicken/ salad. I keep my meal light in the evening. And if at all I feel hungry later at night, I opt for a guava/ boiled asparagus, broccoli/ salad/ soup sprinkled with wheat bran. I am a dessert lover. On my cheat days, I treat my sweet tooth. It is a tough task to control the food urge for a foodie like me. But I’m extra careful now and I try and eat before I go for parties."
Malishka also talked about her cravings, and how tough it was for her to resist the taste buds when someone’s eating what you can’t. She said:
“I usually make it a point to eat my last full meal before the sun goes down. After that, I munch on a cucumber or something. But there’s no hard and fast rule that I stick to, I listen to my heart. For instance, I ate a small portion of tandoori chicken last night. My friend was having that with roti and I skipped the roti though I felt like it was calling out to me. I just try to avoid carbs and dairy products as much I can. I miss my doodh wali chai! I eat rice instead of rotis when I do indulge in carbs. I control my portions but I often give in to my temptations when it comes to desserts. I have a sweet tooth and cannot do without those. I try and make up for that with my workouts. I really envy those kaakdi girls who can eat whatever they want to without putting on any weight. Some of us have to work very very hard to keep the extra pounds away.”
Concerning her diet, there are certain things that she always bear in mind. Here's what she shared:
“My diet is healthier now and I eat every few hours. I make it a point to eat my last meal before the sun goes down. Along with a healthy diet, I have my vitamins and antioxidants too as they are important as we grow older. I also have a protein shake post my workout and glutamine when I do heavy workouts. I make sure I have enough fibre in my diet.
She is extremely happy to see herself in this new avatar. This is what she said:
“I love that I have lost all that weight because I feel fitter. I can wear anything I want to without being conscious. I mean, everyone can wear what they want to. I am talking about myself here. I have started wearing stuff that previously wasn’t quite confident enough to carry. And I feel great!”
After months of hard work, vigorous workout schedule and strict diet plan, Malishka now has the body that any girl would be envy of. Well, we just hope that you all have grabbed some tips from her weight loss journey. Follow them without any compromises, and you will soon get that svelte figure. All the best!
