The 'Straight Out Of A Fairytale' Marwari Wedding Of Sonal And Shaleen

Weddings are mesmerising, beautiful, bright and memorable events. Especially for a couple who is about to tie the knot, each and every function of their wedding festivities is very special. And, such special moments were also experienced by our featured couple for the week, Sonal and Shaleen, when they tied the knot in a proper Marwari style in the royal city of Jaipur. Each function had a distinct charm to itself.

Everything starting from the décor to the outfits, was splendid and the majestic venue of the wedding- the Raj Bagh Niwas added seven stars to the entire wedding. So, without creating anymore curiosity, we take you through the beautiful wedding journey of Sonal and Shaleen.

It all started with a small and intimate mehendi ceremony at Sonal’s house. Shaleen and his family were also a part of this event, where they pampered Sonal with lots of gifts and blessings, welcoming her into their family with open arms. The ceremony was so bright and cheerful that it had every colour possible in it.

Be it the outfits of the people present in it or the bright décor, the colours all around just uplifted the festivities to another level. The bride-to-be was looking radiant in a dark blue blouse and a pink saree and was seen dancing the night away with her loved ones. And to add a Rajasthani touch to the décor, sting curtains with attached Rajasthani figurines on them were hung all around.

The following day was a small puja at the couple’s respective homes. At the groom’s house, only his close family members were a part of it.  What better way to ward of all negative and evil spirits and gather the blessings of the almighty. Post the puja, everyone was treated to a delicious and sumptuous Rajhasthani meal. And how can a celebration be complete without some dancing? Well there was a lot of it and the best part about it was the unusual and traditional Rajasthani tunes that played in the background.

The Engagement at Four Point Sheraton, Jaipur was one of the high points in the wedding celebrations by all means. The best part about the event was that Sonal unlike most other modern brides, who choose fashion over tradition, chose to wear a traditional Marwari sari with a pallu on her head and looked all kinds of gorgeous. The vibrant yellow matched her bubbly personality to the ‘T’. The groom also looked apt in a blue Jodhpuri bandh gala.

There were a lot of interesting elements in the décor in this function. One of them was a big banner on one wall that read- ‘’3 Cheers’’ and a lot of funny phrases on drinking. There were a lot of placards with awesome and witty punch lines. Flower curtains, balloons and colourful lights summed up the entire night.

It was now time for the haldi ceremony before the wedding. The ceremonies took place at their respective abodes. The friends and family had a great time colouring the couple yellow and the two had a gala time getting painted too!

And finally, it was time for the fairytale wedding at the Raj Bagh Niwas at Jaipur. Before the wedding festivities started, there was a small puja at Shaleen’s place where the turban tying on all the baaratis took place. Later on, the groom reached the venue on a decorated horse who wore bright and colourful clothes with beautifully painted pink feet.

The women of the bride’s family waited at the entrance all dressed up with a beautifully decorated thali and pearl malas.

Our bride dressed in a red and gold lehenga by Vikram Phadnis, was all eyes for her groom who was dressed in a light gold sherwani with a royal looking mala. The décor was bright and elegant with all that Rajasthan and its culture has to offer.

Another amazing thing about the wedding was that the pheras took place earlier than the stage reception instead of being held at midnight. This gave all the guests the opportunity to witness the pheras and the couple was able to look fresh in all the pictures. This something we wish all couples would follow as well.
