In conversation with Rocky S, the ace Indian fashion designer who is an absolute favorite with the Bollywood stars like Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, John Abraham, Shilpa Shetty etc. His flair for creating the dream-come-true wedding dress designs for the brides and grooms has earned him a place amongst the most popular couturiers in the country.
1. What inspired you to be a fashion designer?
I always wanted to be in this creative field. As soon I graduated, I started pursuing Fashion Designing. My career is my passion and I love my work the most.
2. From designing prêt-à-porter collections to being the Bollywood’s favouritecostume designer, how has been the journey so far?
The journey has been stupendously amazing. Yet, I feel I have a lot more to achieve. "Disappointment in oneself only stems from the knowledge that we can do better", this is what I believe. I still have a long way to go and accomplish many things before feeling content about being successful. For me this is just a beginning...
3. How is designing for brides and groom different from designing an everyday line, let’s say, corporate wear?
Designing for a bride and groom needs lots of minute detailing in terms of bride & groom’s body types, preference in terms of colors, style, cuts and silhouettes. Nowadays there are lot of destination wedding taking place so depending on the theme and place the concept changes for designing their ensembles.
4. What can our brides look forward to for the Fall/Winter wedding season?
Combination of Indian ethnicity with modern fabrication is being used in bridal wear. A sari in new style will make the whole look of the bride unconventional and starkly different from that of other women present at the celebration. Beautiful karigari on nets, mirror work cholis with bright lehengas and Kanjivaram block prints can be tried by young brides.

Modern brides & grooms like to be in sync with trends and are going in for subtler, natural colours – dull silver and metallic ones – perfect for those with more sophisticated tastes. These colours bring elegance back to bridal wear.

Yes I do celebrity wedding attires. The most recent were Esha Deol’s Reception and Sangeet Outfits.

The USP of our bridal collection is that it makes you feel good about yourself, compliment your personal style. Each ensemble is been intricately hand crafted with varied range of embroidery, Swarovski crystal embellishments, cord work scallop edgings and textures complimenting the range of the collection inspired from the concept.

a) What is the right way to preserve the wedding attire?
The best way to preserve the wedding attire is to cover it up fully in a light muslin cloth so that the embroidery is preserved from the outer surroundings like humidity and other affecting sources.
b) How can one wear the wedding dress again on different occasions?
Wearing the wedding dress on different occasions can be tricky at times as it depends on what kind of attire it is. For e.g if a Lehenga is been worn as a wedding dress then the dupatta of the same can be draped in a different form. The saris always work the best. They can be definitely used in a different occasion by draping it in an unusual classy way.
c) What is the average price of your collection? Where can the brides buy a Rocky S creation?
