Post Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, a lot of Bollywood celebrities have been facing the backlash, and filmmaker, Mahesh Bhatt tops the list. It all had begun with his throwback statement, which had stated that he could sense Sushant’s state of mind and he knew that he would have a fate like the late actress, Parveen Babi. Post that the netizens had started questioning his relationship with Rhea Chakraborty, who is the prime suspect in Sushant’s suicide case. Their pictures and WhatsApp chat had started getting viral and Mahesh Bhatt is facing humiliation at every end. Of late, a new set of WhatsApp chats between Mahesh Bhatt and Rhea Chakraborty from June 8 to June 15 had made it to the headlines. The chats were accessed by India Today and had made a nation-wide explosion. The conversation between them had unveiled the fact that Mahesh Bhatt was well aware of anything and everything that was going on in Rhea and Sushant's relationship. The WhatsApp conversation had also thrown light at the fact that Bhatt had influenced Rhea into not continuing her relationship with Sushant. Now, Mahesh Bhatt’s elder daughter, Pooja Bhatt has come forward to rescue her father.
Taking to her Twitter handle, Pooja Bhatt replied to a tweet of a social media user stating that the conversation between Mahesh Bhatt and Rhea Chakraborty is a normal conversation between two individuals. The user questioned the news channel about what they found explosive in the chats, and Pooja Bhatt reacted to it by tweeting, “Interestingly,the message @IndiaToday refers to as ‘most explosive revelation’ is a message that my father also sent me & countless other people on his phone list on the same day(June 9) & subsequently posted on Twitter as well (26-6-2020) get your facts right @IndiaToday.”

Pooja Bhatt’s step-mother and Mahesh Bhatt’s wife, Soni Razdan also came forward to defend her husband. Reacting to Pooja Bhatt’s tweet, Soni Razdan shared a screenshot of the same message she too had received from her husband on June 9, and took a dig at the news channels. Her tweet can be read as “Yes true. Here is mine. We get them everyday. When will news channels actually give us real news and not fabricated spin-offs. Most seem to have turned into uglier more salacious versions of Stardust and Cine Blitz.”

This is not the first time that Pooja has stepped in to save her father from the humiliation. When her father, Mahesh Bhatt was accused of promoting nepotism in Bollywood post Sushant’s death, Pooja had cleared how he was earlier blamed of not launching star kids. Reacting to the debate around nepotism, taking to her twitter handle, she had written, "Have been asked to comment on the hot topic Nepotism that people are raging about. As someone who hails from a ‘family’ that has launched more new talent-actors, musicians & technicians, than the entire film industry combined I can only laugh. Facts don’t find takers. Continuing further, she had written how earlier her father was accused of not working with established actors. She had tweeted, “There was a time when the Bhatt’s were accused of having something against established actors & made to feel inferior for only working with/launching newcomers & not chasing stars. And now the same people play the nepotism card? Google & tweet guys & won’t even say think & speak."
On July 7, 2020, Mahesh Bhatt’s wife, Soni Razdan too had come forward to support her husband in the nepotism fiasco. Taking to Twitter, a user had lashed out at Alia Bhatt's father, Mahesh Bhatt by calling him the 'flag-bearer of nepotism'. His tweet could be read as “The real issue is nepotism…and your so called husband is flag bearer and so is god father of your daughter.” This was enough to miff Mrs Bhatt as she had lashed out at the troll revealing how her husband has given more breaks to newcomers and there was a time where he was accused of not working with stars. She had replied, "You’re so ill informed. My husband has given more breaks to new comers than any one else in this industry. There was a whole long period of time where he refused to work with stars. Then he was accused of not working with stars! Do ur homework and then talk please."
