No Band, Baaja Aur Baraat- Bans Imposed On Music And Fireworks In Weddings

Well, here is a new update that is going to leave all the soon-to-be married couples in Delhi totally stunned. According to the Delhi Court's latest guidelines that will be coming in force by the end of this month, music and weddings will no longer be synonymous with each other.

Surprised as well as shocked? Well, so were we, when we heard this. Weddings will soon have bans on everything from the baraat to the music and much more. Here are the complete details of the new rule for weddings in Delhi.

What will you miss in the weddings now?

No more baraat!

According to the new guidelines issued by the Court, a baraat can only be started 50 meters away from the venue. Also, no baraat would be allowed to be on roads after 9 pm. The action has been taken so as to avoid the traffic chaos that is usually created by the baraats during the peak hours in the city.

No more band and baaja

What’s more? Looking at the recent reports that highlighted the alarming levels of noise pollution in the city, court has even issued the rule that there will be no music at weddings beyond 10 pm. And, anyone violating these rules will have to face a hefty fine that can go up to Rs. 50,000.

Wedding lightings with 'conditions apply'

Another important restriction that will be imposed on weddings soon is related to the use of electricity at the wedding venues. Considering the electricity woes in Delhi, especially during summers, any wedding with more than 100 people will be provided with electricity at normal charges only till 11 pm. Beyond this time, the electricity charges will be doubled only for weddings. Well, this ruling is still under consideration and will come in force from June, 2015.

Reactions to the new rule

So, dear grooms and all the excited baraatis, say goodbye to those long-hauled baraats as you can now only start it at just a stone’s throw away from your wedding venue! We also spoke to a few bandwalas in Delhi, who have just received notices related to this new ruling. Ajay Pal, who owns the famous “Raja Rani” Band in Chandni Chowk, says, “We are not too happy with this ruling. The long baraat was the only time when we made some extra money from the baraatis. Jab baraat hi chotti hogi toh log paise kahan se udayenge humpe?” The new rulings related to music and baraat has affected the business of dholwalas as well.

As music, fireworks, and long baraats  are considered to be the main attractions of any wedding, people from the city are just not happy with these new rules. We spoke to Nikita and Anurag, who are getting married in May this year, and just heard of this ruling from their wedding vendors. They have decided to prepone their wedding to April 30, so as to save their wedding from this rule. Anushka and Rehaan, who will be getting married in October, have already decided to go for a destination wedding.
