After demonitisation affected the budget of most of the big fat Indian weddings, here is another big news which will make you think twice before lavishly spending on your big-day!

Ranjeet Rajan, an MP from Bihar, has introduced a private bill in Lok Sabha to curb the money spent on extravagant weddings. According to this bill, if you spend more than 5 lakh rupees on the wedding ceremony, you have to donate 10 per cent of that to the wedding of a poor girl.

During the time of demonetisation, a business tycoon from Andhra Pradesh threw a grand wedding worth 500 crore rupees. It was the same time when people were struggling to withdraw money from ATMs.

This bill has been introduced to put a limit on the amount of money people lavishly spend on weddings, just to show off their wealth to their relatives and friends! According to Ranjeet, people waste money on weddings, without thinking even once and it is wrong. Spending so much money on the wedding ultimately puts a lot of pressure on poor people! She said:

“These days, marriages are more about showing off your wealth. This is needed to be checked as it is not good for society at large.”

The bill also states that a married couple must register within 60 days of their wedding. If the bill is passed in the lower house, government will be the final authority to take a call on the number of guests, food menu and décor.

We have no clue that how the authorities will keep a check on the catering services where per plate system is followed. How are they actually going to keep a tab of the millions of weddings happening in India?
