When we talk about destination weddings, what is the first thing that comes to our mind? It definitely has to be exotic locations like the mountains, beaches or some historical palace city, or a destination abroad.

But, this couple, chose a unique destination for their wedding. You must have seen numerous sea-side weddings, but have you ever witnessed a wedding INSIDE the sea? We are sure you have not. Nikhil Pawar and Eunika Pogran did just that. They gave the liberty of witnessing their very cool underwater wedding.
Yes, we are not kidding. Nikhil, who is a diving instructor with Bond Ocean safari in Kovalam got married to his Slovakian girlfriend Eunika, in a very hatke under-water wedding. The ceremony took place in the Arabian Sea at the Grove Beach in Kerala.
Organised by the Bond Ocean Safari, this 90-minute ceremony was attended by the couple’s close family and friends. This was the first ever wedding of its kind in India.
A special stage of coconut palms, wood and leaves was made in the sea for the ceremony. The couple exchanged rings and a garland made of sea shells while they performed the Christian ceremony.
The bride and groom wore traditional Christian wedding outfits, which are a white gown for Eunika and a white shirt and black trousers for Nikhil. In case you were wondering how they pulled off the wedding rituals, let us tell you that all the verbal exchanges were done using placards! Now that is so innovative!

The couple underwent a two-day long training in diving and breath-control prior to their big day, so that they could hold their breath during the 90-minute long under-water ceremony. Nikhil, the groom, had something special to say about his unique wedding while he talked to a leading online portal. Here is what it was:
“We have always wanted to do something interesting for our wedding and Eunika readily agreed when I proposed the idea of an underwater wedding. Being a regular traveler and a diving enthusiast, she quickly learnt everything and found no issues underwater. After we first met seven months ago in Kovalam, she went back to her hometown and returned a month ago. Wedding was not in the plan then, but since we were confident of taking our relationship to the next level, we decided to take the plunge.”
Well, Nikhil and Eunika, your wedding really was very interesting and fun! The couple also stated that they will be having another formal wedding ceremony in Slovakia (Eunika’s hometown) soon.
