How To Support Your Spouse During Tough Times

We all know that life is like a roller coaster ride. If there are good times, then there will be bad times too. Even among couples, turbulences do occur at times despite the efforts made by both the partners to keep everything smooth. This might happen if either of the partners faces tough time due to something which is not directly related to his/her better half. However, supporting and understanding your spouse during this testing time is the most important thing. If you want your loved one to bounce back, you have to act strong and help him/her to face the bad time. Here are few tips that will help you to support your spouse in hard times.

Do not be judgemental

When your partner has suffered enough because of a mistake or a wrong decision, the last thing he/she would want to hear from you is, your negative remarks about the whole matter.

So, better be careful of certain things in such situations and also be aware of these 5 Habits that Might be Toxic for Your Relationship

Let’s say, you warned your spouse about one of his/her friends. But, a few days later he/she had a fight with that friend, and came back home in a furious mood. So, what are you going to do now? If you decide to say, “Well, I told you so”, then there are chances that your partner might never ask for your help or share any of the bad experiences with you again. Hence, you need to understand that he/she is going through enough pain already. So instead of passing on comments, try to make your partner feel better by distracting him/her through some fun activities, like sports, dining out, shopping, etc.

Be the source of strength

So, your partner got passed over for a promotion today? Obviously, he/she must be in a bad mood. But instead of asking, “Are you ok?” or saying, “I feel so sorry for you”, say that you have faith in him/her, and you know that he/she can handle this situation easily.

Saying sorry might make your partner feel even more disappointed, and the feeling of not being able to live up to your expectations might also arise. None of us like to be considered as a weak person, especially by someone whom we love the most. So, just show your support to your better half, and let him/her deal with the situation in his/her way.

Be patient

There might be times when your spouse will not share his/her problems with you due to some reasons. This might bother you sometimes, but you need to be patient in such cases. No matter what are the circumstances, always try to be an invisible support.

You can cook his/her favourite meal, plan a get together with close friends, give a tight hug and a kiss, anything which you feel will lift your partner’s mood. And when you feel that the time is right, ask if he/she wants to talk about the problem. But, do not pressurise and just let them know that you care for them, and they can always count on you.
