On February 24, 2018, the news of passing away of a legend shocked the whole nation. Yesteryear actress, Sridevi’s sudden and unfortunate demise grieved the whole country because it was always a bliss to watch her grace and poise on the screen. Sridevi’s last film was a crime-thriller, Mom, for which she had garnered huge accolades, praises and many prestigious awards. Recently, at the 19th International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards, it was a difficult and emotional moment for Boney Kapoor when he went onto the stage and received the ‘Best Actress’ award on behalf of Sridevi. Unable to hold onto his emotions, tears of melancholy and pride rolled down his cheeks as he held the award on his hand.
He said with tears in his eyes, “I miss her every moment of my life”. His son Arjun Kapoor and brother Anil Kapoor, immediately rushed to the stage to comfort Boney. Anil held the mike and said, “She was a true genius. The country, the world and our family misses you.”
At the 65th National Film Awards held in New Delhi on May 3, 2018, Boney Kapoor and his daughters, Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor were present to receive the award on Sridevi’s behalf. Before receiving the award, they had released a joint statement expressing their gratitude and thanks to the National Film Awards jury. The statement read as, “We are overjoyed to know that the Jury has conferred the Best Actor Award to Sridevi for her performance in ‘Mom’”.
It further read as, “It’s a very special moment for all of us. She was always a perfectionist and it showed in all the 300 plus films she did. She was not just a Super Actor but a Super Wife and a Super Mom. It’s time to celebrate her life and her achievements. She is not with us today, but her legacy will always live on. We thank the Government of India, the Hon’ble Jury Members for this honour. We also take this opportunity to thank all our friends, her fans who have been sending us congratulatory messages. Thank you, Janhvi, Khushi & Boney Kapoor.”
Time and again, Boney had shared how much he misses Sridevi. On their 22nd wedding anniversary on June 2, 2018, Boney took to Twitter and posted an emotional video of all the special moments of Sridevi and captioned it as, “Today would have been our 22nd wedding anniversary. Jaan... My wife, my soulmate, the epitome of love, grace , warmth and laughter lives within me forever...” Here’s the video:
