But despite some fabulously-realistic love chronicles on the silver screen, it’s Ayushmann’s real-life love journey with wife, Tahira Kashyap that has inspired everyone and made us believe that fairy-tale romances still exist. Ayushmann and Tahira have been with each other in thick and thin and are shining examples of everlasting love. While Ayushmann is on a professional high these days with the success of Andhadhun and his upcoming film, Badhai Ho, the actor is going through a lot in his personal life after his wife, Tahira was detected with cancer. Post Tahira underwent a mastectomy, she revealed the details about her health with a positive Instagram message that must have encouraged millions.
In an interview with Pinkvilla, Ayushmann shared what he went through after learning about Tahira’s cancer and how he has started looking at his life in a very different way. He was quoted as saying, "I think I have started looking life in a different way altogether. I'm more happy has a persona, I'm more patient as a person. Small things don't bother me anymore because with an issue like that you have to have a very healthy and happy state of mind because you are also working at the same time, two films were releasing and she was in the hospital.”
Further talking about the silver lining in their scenario, Ayushmann went on to say, “So, in the morning I used to promote my films and go back to the hospital in the night. I was sleepless for seven nights and seven days. It was not easy but since she was positive, she inspired me a lot. We were also lucky enough as we got to know about it at the early stage that's the silver lining. We decided to keep it positive."
On October 2, 2018, the special screening of Ayushmann Khurrana’s film, Andhadhun, was held at Mumbai. Tahira, putting her best foot forward, accompanied her hubby on his special day and the couple was all smiles for the cameras. Sharing how the couple dealt with Tahira’s cancer, Ayushmann stated in an interview, “She was diagnosed on my birthday [September 14]. We had to maintain a happy life state to deal with it. In fact, after we got to know about her condition, we went to see Manmarziyaan that evening. We told ourselves, ‘Okay, we’ve been diagnosed. We can’t go home and cry about it. It’s better to go for a film.’ So, we watched the film, came back and got the date for her operation.”
Tahira shared the shocking news of her breast cancer with her fans through an Instagram post, and wrote, “An opportunity to give competition to the Kardashians just went wasted! A week back I mentioned about ‘my badge of honour’ that I was going to receive. And I did and am happy to share about it with the intention of it being received with love. As that’s the only reason I am posting it. Love for self and gratitude for the universe. The picture might be disturbing for some, but these drains have become my dumbells for a few days. Her post can further be read as, “Simply put stage 0 cancer/ pre-cancerous stage, with cancer cells multiplying in a contained area. The result I have become a half Indian version of Angelina Jolie (since only one breast was involved)! I told my doctor now is the time to give some competition to the Kardashians since Pamela is passé. But no one listened to me, so now I have a portion of my back tissue in my breast. Perhaps now I can do chin-ups with my breasts! Jokes apart, this obstacle has given me a new definition of life. Respect its unpredictability and have the faith and courage to be the hero of your own drama of life.”
Tahira further penned down, “The invincible human spirit is God like, gives you the courage to endure and the will to revive. There is nothing that human spirit can’t do. Also, I want women of all ages to be aware. I am 35, and I was returned twice over from a mammogram. If any symptoms come up, think of it as a protective force and get yourselves examined.”
She concluded by saying, “Also, we are so obsessed with boobs. This mastectomy has left me with even more self-love! Big, small, left or right inclined, gravity pulling or defying, or even none, each breast the presence or lack of it has a story to tell. Mine has made me a 2.0 version of myself! To which the doting and loving husband, Ayushmann instantly commented, “My warrior princess”, followed by a crown emoji. Tahira’s brother-in-law and Ayushmann's brother, Aparshakti Khurana too, commented on the post, “Bhabhiiiii we love you and are soooo proud of you.
