Let's Talk About Money, Honey!

Our belief system considers having monetary talks at home with the husband or in-laws a taboo. But, the trend is now changing. The couple is uniting to discuss cash inflows and outflows to assess big and small investments. But if you still think it is difficult to do this at home, discover some reasons that will prepare you to take the plunge. Concerns of money cannot be the rosy talks in a relationship but then all conversations can’t be rosy too?
Financial discussions with your partner are meant to be conducted in a delicate and subtle way without sounding outrageous. Here are some ways in which you can deal with it in a delicate way.

Finance Get-together: Once Every Month
How about getting together once every month to take a look at your bills and pay them together. This would save a lot of hassles. Even when you have automated systems for bill payments, it is necessary to have a look at them to understand what and where are you spending the money. When you have a look at these bills you know what exactly your cash outflow is. When you sit together to understand your finances you can also account for wastage, if any.

Cooperate actively in the conversation
Togetherness in finances helps the couple understand how to handle them in case of an emergency, like sudden illness or death of one of them. Knowing the debts and understanding how much credit/debit has occurred in the banks can help avoid suicides and lessen the burden on one partner. Handling finances may seem to be a mundane task if not treated well. The fun of togetherness interspersed with financial talks at home can make this task less boring.

Talk Finances at the right time
There is a time and place for every talk. You cannot have financial discussions with your partner when you have reached the end of the day tired and frustrated or when you are having a nice time at dinner. In bed or when you are angry are equally bad times to talk about finances. Why not schedule a day and time when you would talk about the finances, plan them and assess how much of the planning was successfully implemented or what went wrong while planning.

Working as a team and understanding the importance of carrying out financial discussions with your partner is essential in a couple’s life. So make it a point to have financial discussions with your partner so there is no confusion or complication in times of need or decisions.
