Winter is not about drowning mugs of hot coffee and pakodas to keep yourself warm. It is about making healthy food choices which will help your body generate heat from within. So, let’s have a look at some foods which will keep you warm this winter.
Sweet and Spicy
How can spices keep you warm, you may ask? We will not get into any scientific explanations but you should know that cinnamon, pepper and cloves are called warm spices. These spices have properties which warm up your body quickly and also give a boost to your immune system.
Whole grains and legumes
Whole grains and legumes contain complex carbohydrates which provide energy to your body. Your body uses this energy as fuel to give you warmth on those cold winter days. Whole grains are a rich source of a number of vitamins, especially vitamin B and they help your thyroid gland to function optimally. Thyroid gland helps to regulate your body temperature and keeps you toasty warm in winter.
It not only has warming properties but it also helps strengthen your digestive system as well as boosts your immunity. So incorporate ginger in sabjis, soups and salads as much as possible during winter.
Nuts and Seeds
In winter always eat like a bird. No, we do not mean that you should reduce your meal portions. What we mean is that you must try to eat a handful of nuts or seeds daily.
